Whales are among the most beautiful members of the ocean kingdom. They are incredible creatures, worthy of awe and wonder. (poised on the brink of extinction) However, several whale species are near extinction as the ecological balance is threatened. They're the most intelligent creatures of the planet. They're the majestic killer whales, orcas. The movie is FREE WILLY, The music is incredible! When Warner Brothers released the hit movie FREE WILLY, the real-life orca star won the hearts of people around the world. (Yeah!) His name is Keiko! Unlike Willy in the movie, Keiko was not set free. He remained in poor health in an amusement park in Mexico. Thanks to the generosity of Warner Brothers and caring people like you -- we urgently need your help. Your donations will let us take this unprecedented next step. Please call 1-800-4-WHALES today and adopt an orca now. Haven't they waited long enough? This message is brought to you by Bumblebee Tuna: Dolphin-safe and Whale-wise.

Who remembers the movie FREE WILLY? (Yeah, oh I love that movie! ha ha) When FREE WILLY escaped -- I was taking my daughters to the movie, 8 (they remember) and 4 (haha) -- and, when he escaped I started to cry, and they ran out of the theater they were so embarrassed! (haha ha-HAHAHAHA) ๐ฝ๐‘ข๐‘ ๐‘ก ๐ด๐‘›๐‘œ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘’๐‘Ÿ (x2) An adventure you will never forget. FREE WILLY. How far would you go for a friend? (Go, Willy, Go!!)

The environment will have to get along without me! I just want to be a normal kid again! But conditions are getting worse out there, Jess! The Earth needs help from everyone, especially kids! Don't you get it? We've done our bit for the environment. Willy and I have earned a break! The polluters and the lawbreakers never stop, neither can we! We've all gotta keep working together! Pff. Get a life.

Jason, are you aware that there is some controversy about whether or not animals who've been in captivity should be released into the wild? Yeah. Uh, I guess where I stand on that is... I feel that, it's right -- or not right, but, I guess, it's okay that uh, you can take whales into captivity as long as they're taken care of, they're fed, they have a huge, humongous tank tank, and they have a sixty foot deep tank, you know, where they can just swim, and play, and be free. But, the bad thing is, is they're not in the wild. They're not with their family. And their family doesn't take 'em back after they've been taken away. So, even if they were to live again they couldn't go back with their own pod. Because they travel in big pods of like fifty and a hundred. Orca whales never leave their mothers. From the moment the pilgrims landed to the early 20th century, whaling was a powerful force in the evolution of the country. Much of America's culture, economy, in fact, its Spirit were literally and figuratively rendered from the bodies of whales. Thousands of American ships manned by tens of thousands of men killed hundreds of thousands of whales which were processed into products and profits that in turn created great fortunes and spurred the formation and growth of the nation. American whale oil lit the world. It was used in the production of soap, textiles, leathers, paints, and varnishes, and it lubricated the tools and machines that drove the Industrial Revolution. C'mere boy. C'mere. I'll miss you. Don't forget me, okay? I won't forget you. Say hello to your mom for me, kay? I love you, boy. I believe in you. You can do it. You can be free. (Wow!)

Tonight: Keiko, the orca whale known to millions as the star of the FREE WILLY movies, is dead. He died this afternoon in Norwegian coastal waters following the sudden onset of pneumonia. Keiko was released from Iceland in July 2002 and swam straight to Norway, an 870-mile trip that seemed to some to be a search for human companionship. He first turned up near a Norwegian village. There he allowed fans to pet and play with him, becoming such an attraction that animal protection authorities imposed a ban on approaching him. At 27, he'd already outlived most whales in captivity, but those closest to Keiko had no idea he was so sick, no idea the end of an incredible story was so close at hand. No, Keiko actually had been really healthy. He'd been swimming actively, good appetite. It was only yesterday that we started to see any signs of problems. And, and Keiko was just the most amazing whale that's, uh that's ever lived. Well, he didn't live as long as many had hoped, but for five years, Keiko managed to become what so many had long wanted him to be: a wild whale. Kathy? Well, it's quite a story. Joe, thank you very much. The Orca Conservancy says Keikoโ€™s death should not affect plans to relocate Luna. That's the young orca whale from Canada who's planning to come home to Washington waters. Luna is living off Vancouver Island. He became separated from his family pod more than two years ago, and he's not doing well by himself. He's become a threat to boats and to himself. Canada and the United States plan to reunite Luna with his L-pod family in the spring.

about

"Future historians will have the task of explaining how our performative love for animals relates to our relentless extermination of them. It is not simply a lack of knowledge."
- Amia Srinivasan, "What Have We Done To The Whale?"

All proceeds will be donated to help protect orca whales in Keiko's ancestral waters via the Icelandic Orca Project. Read more here: www.icelandic-orcas.com
